Colour begins before weaving

The NID field account describes dyeing silk yarn before it is woven, including preparing different colours for the body and contrasting areas. This is a documented workshop process, not a promise that every saree uses the same dyes or treatment.

A natural-looking colour is not a dye certificate

If a piece is described as naturally dyed, ask which dye materials and processes were used and what evidence is available. Muted colour alone cannot establish the dye source. Ask for the maker’s specific washing and colour-care instructions.

Give colour a fair comparison

When shopping remotely, ask for an unfiltered daylight view and another under ordinary indoor light, ideally next to a familiar neutral object. Screens and photography can change your impression. If exact colour matters for a wedding, confirm the seller’s process for resolving a mismatch before ordering.

Plan for the setting

Look at the saree with the blouse fabric and accessories you intend to wear. Compare a full view with close-ups of the body and border. Decide whether you want the contrast to read strongly from a distance or reveal itself more subtly up close.
