Start with your intended use
For a long ceremony, consider how the pleats sit, how the pallu rests, and whether you are comfortable moving and sitting. A collector may value a different set of features from someone choosing a saree for frequent wear. Neither preference needs to be treated as the universal ideal.
Ask for a measured weight
If buying online, request the actual weight and clarify whether it includes the blouse piece or packaging. Use that information to compare the feel you already know. A weight figure by itself does not tell you the fibre, origin, or quality of the zari.
Try three simple observations
With the seller’s permission, view the saree open, gather a few pleats, and see how the pallu falls. Notice how the border behaves at the folds. Ask whether the fabric has a finish that affects its initial handle and what care is recommended.
Look beyond the adjective
“Soft”, “lightweight”, “heavy”, and “bridal” are useful starting descriptions, but sellers may use them differently. Ask for a short unfiltered draping video and dimensions. Assess the specific saree through its materials and workmanship rather than choosing the largest number.

- Does the border fold the way I want it to?
- Have I compared equivalent dimensions and materials?
